“Please. He throws a hissy fit if I march my retinue too close to the mount and that’s barely a legion of ghosts. How do you think he’d handle an influx?” Still, she had a point. Fresh ghosts were a minor inconvenience, not the really whammy they’d need to force through a change.

“You’re a Queen now. Can’t you just…” She brought her hand down, slicing through the air in an authoritative motion. “… say so?”  Perhaps Hekate didn’t have the best understanding of being under Zeus’ command- she’d never listened to him in the first place and she’d been running through the realms as she might long before he’d even been born.

Should it only be so simple. She did not adhere to Zeus’ rulings for fear of Zeus himself; she did so because it was the simplest way to keep the fragile peace between her mother and husband. Hades did not mind the times she went Above to check on the world, though she did not stay for long — the death of the flora and crust of ice on the earth chased her away far better than any decree could. If her mother, however, found her Above during the winter months, she would scream that their treaty had been broken, and so Persephone could stay Above. If she went to the Underworld during her time Above — or rather, if she was caught doing so — her mother would be heartbroken.

The goddess grinned bitterly. “It is not for Zeus’ sake that I keep this schedule.”
